Heat 2½ cups of water on the stove or electric kettle until boiling
While the water is coming up to a boil divide and add the ground cinnamon (optional), lemon juice, bourbon and honey in that order to the bottom of two heat proof mugs. Stir together with a spoon until the cinnamon is evenly distributed.
Once the water has come to a boil, pour into each glass over the top of the cinnamon, lemon, honey mixture. Allow to sit for a minute or so to warm the honey. Stir together until honey has dissolved. Serve garnished with lemon wedges and cinnamon sticks.
