Whew! We made it through the first whole week of 2022! As I mentioned a few posts ago, I’ve added a new feature to the blog! All recipes will now have nutrition information available to use as a guide. While updating my existing recipes, I noticed a few that would be fantastic additions to any healthier menus you’re putting together after the new year! It only seemed appropriate to do a recipe round-up so they’re extra easy to find!
There are so many different variables which could land a recipe in a healthier category. Lower calorie or carb, high protein, no artificial ingredients, low sodium, etc. What may work into my healthier choices, may not be aligned with yours. That’s OK! The recipe round-up I’ve added below are mostly higher in lean protein and lower or balanced in carbohydrates than other options you may commonly on HIH. I hope this recipe round-up helps you kick-off 2022 deliciously healthy!
Super Simple White Chicken Chili
This super simple chili recipe is packed with 40 grams of lean protein and is under 300 calories/serving. The spice blend keeps this recipe anything but bland! Garnishes like cheese and full fat sour cream can add to the fat and calorie count quickly. Keep an eye on those garnishes to keep this dish on the healthy side!
Easy Roasted Sweet Potato Soup
This recipe is packed with goodness. While higher in carbs, it’s hearty while being calorie friendly. Under 250 calories/serving. It’s also packed with potassium and vitamin A. Adding a scoop of 0% fat Greek yogurt or shredded chicken breast are both delicious ways to up the protein without adding tons of fat or calories. Again, mind those garnishes when adding this recipe to a health conscious menu.
Super Simple Red Meat Chili
I love using game meats like elk and venison in this chili recipe. Game meats tend to be very lean. To keep this on the healthier side, make sure you’re considering the fat content in the meat you choose. 93/7 ground beef won’t make a great burger, but it’s great in this chili! The seasoning mix provides so much great flavor, you can use very lean meats while still achieving great flavor! Choose low sodium beans to keep from overloading on sodium. If you’re looking to really add protein, I’ve doubled the meat in this recipe several times and it’s been fantastic!
Alden’s Pantry Ranch – Lightened-up
This one was just posted, but when you have a recipe for a salad dressing which comes in under 25 calories/serving and has 3 grams of protein/serving, it deserves to be included! On most days, I prefer this version to the original version using mayonnaise! A bottle of this in the fridge is an easy to reach for healthy option to add tons of flavor to your favorite foods without adding tons of calories!
Are you eating healthier with the start of a new year? I know I am. I can’t wait to share more of my healthier recipes over the next few weeks!
