‘Tis the season! Mushroom lovers and outdoor enthusiasts are combing the woods looking for the elusive morel mushroom. I’m lucky enough to have a whole bag of these earthy, tender mushrooms, currently. It’s been a good year for the mushrooms hunters! We all love a good fried mushroom, but when there’s a bounty, it calls…

Here at HFO, it’s goose season! I’ve got fresh goose meat in my fridge thanks to my husband’s hunting abilities, so you know I have to share how we’re preparing his harvest. The HIH Wild Goose and Gruyere Tart is a delicious and easy way to prepare field fare. This tart is a fantastic appetizer,…

Spaghetti and meatballs is a classic! My recipe for oven baked meatballs is a favorite around HFO. I make them ALOT. These baked meatballs are so tender and juicy, come together super quickly, and are at the top of the request list for our guests. Just dump, mix, scoop, and bake. They can be served…

Is there anything better than a warm bowl of chili on a chilly November day? If not, it’s certainly top five. Great chili is hearty, full of flavor, and has just the right amount of spice to warm you up from the inside out. That’s exactly what you’ll get with my Red Meat Chili. The…

Truth be told, I did not grow up eating meatloaf. While many of you have childhood memories of this dish, my first meatloaf memory only goes back to my college days. There was an upscale restaurant my parents would always want to go to when they came to visit me at college with meatloaf on…

Honey, I’m Hungry by Alden Elizabeth

Hi, I'm Alden, the face behind Honey, I'm Hungry. I'm a city girl, living the country life with my husband Brad, 3 horses, 2 cats, and our dog Kam on our farm in Southeast Kansas. We work hard around here, juggling careers, farm duties, and Harris Farms Outfitters aka, HFO. HFO offers full service whitetail deer and duck hunting experiences. Brad handles the hunting, I handle the hospitality, including the food. Our little town only has about 500 people and 1 restaurant, which doesn't have dinner service!
During the 2020 hunting season, I started posting the food I was cooking using #thehuntersarehungry. Requests for recipes started hitting my DMs only to be met with the unfortunate news that I wasn't using recipes, I was just winging it! Well, winging it isn't exactly accurate. I've been blessed learn from amazing cooks, especially my Mom, and I've watched more hours of the Food Network than I should probably admit.
Once hunting season was over, I wrote down some, but I wasn't finding the time in our crazy schedules for much more. In March '21, God gave me the time! I injured my ankle and ended up house bound during my early recovery. Not one to rest idly, I took the time to write down and test dozens of recipes.
With recipes written and tested, I now had to decide how to share. A blog was not in my initial plans, but lots of brainstorming, pro/con lists, and encouragement from my husband, honeyimhungryblog.com was born! I jumped into the blogging game completely blind. After LOTS of trial and error, I'm starting to see more clearly now, but shoot, that learning curve is steep! I still have so much to learn but I'm loving the experience!
Whether you're looking for rustic or refined recipes, you're in the right place. Oh, and I despise doing dishes, so I always work to create processes that make the least mess possible! Thank you for coming along for this journey with me.
